I now ask myself that question everyday. My better half was offered a job transfer and I was convinced that it would be for the better till we retired. A few years here plus the benefit of being exposed to the different cultures of peoples, religion, music, theatres, museums, education etc...what could possibly go wrong?
My daughter was not too keen on the idea of moving to another province even though months earlier she had met a wonderful young man who was attending a prestigious university nearby where we picked out our condo.
Our first winter here was pretty rough. All was going well till one day in January 07, my daughter receives a phone call from her boyfriend. An unbelievalbe opportunity has been offered to him. The most influential and esteemed university in England has bestowed upon him a full scholarship in his Masters. They were both elated and emotionanly upset. But she encouraged him to go. They decided that they could pick up where they had left when he returned in a few years.
My daughter and a friend (they work together) of hers decided they would spend the winter here and then move out to Vancouver the following year. She would be able to save money while staying with us. She has always loved Vancouver.
Her friend was waiting for a job transfer out to Vancouver which was taking longer then expected. It was now fall. My daughter had met people and made a few friends. It was good to see her with a smile. It is now Halloween my daughter and her friends were headed out all, dressed up and ready to do some dancing at a local bar down the street from us. They had a great time!
It is now November 2008. After the Halloween party it was back to the same routine.
Then November 14, 2008, a day I will never forget.
